User Conference Training Topics

Individual training needs will vary. Attendees choose appropriate levels and topics, which will determine how many of the presentations can be attended during their attendance at the event. Many topics are repeated over the 2-day event. To insure complete coverage, sites should register an appropriate number of staff.

The daily schedule for each event is subject to change at any time. Registered attendees should check our Web site just prior to the event to check for any last-minute changes to the schedule.

Schoolmaster Student Information Systems reserves the right to change the specifications and offering of these topics at any time.

Conference Presentations

The following is a tentative list of presentations. Registrants should note that presentation schedules vary at each event and that only a few of the presentations are duplicated during the 2-day event. Sites should consider sending more than one staff if bringing back a maximum amount of information is desired. The list of presentations and the individual event schedules are subject to change at any time.

Presentations

Admissions Module: [ALL] ~ Admissions is an additional, licensed module that allows schools to track potential students without adding them to the active student population.  This session covers how to manage those applicants all the way through the application process until they become active students..

Advanced User Discussion and Q&A : [ALL] ~ An open round-table discussion between advanced users on their use of the system and to voice their “I wish” list for future enhancements.

AZ CTE (Arizona Conference Only): [ALL] ~ Overview of how to set Schoolmaster up in order to export information required for the Career and Technical Education Program.

Az SAFE Reporting (Arizona Conference Only): [ALL] ~ A comprehensive overview of how the Safe Schools module is used for Az SAFE reporting.

Computing Daily Absences Workshop (Arizona Conference Only): [ALL] ~ A comprehensive overview of how different features in Schoolmaster (meeting patterns, attendance thresholds, departures/arrivals, etc.) affect a student's calculated absence value for a given day.

Creating User Defined Records & Fields: [ALL] ~ Schools that desire to track additional information that is not currently collected by Schoolmaster (e.g., students allowed to use the Internet), may create their own fields to track that information. This session provides direction for creating such fields.

Custom State Reporting Update: [ALL] ~ Overview of the latest changes to custom state reporting programs.

Data Exporting and Importing Overview: [ALL] ~ Overview of generating delimited text files that can be opened in applications such as Microsoft Excel^TM and other software programs.

Fees and Fines Module: [ALL] ~ Overview of managing fees and fines such as book fines, lab fees, yearbook, class rings, etc.

Grading ~ How to Use Elementary Grading: [DE, SE / E] ~ Module setup, collecting marks and comments, creating report card layouts, and generating transcripts.

Grading ~ How to Use Secondary Grading : [DE, SE / S] ~ Module setup, collecting marks and comments, creating report card layouts, and generating transcripts.

Gradebook Workshop: [DE, SE / E, S] ~ A comprehensive overview of how to create and manage both Elementary and Secondary gradebooks in Integrated Gradebook.

Guidance, Health, and Test History Modules ~ Overview: [ALL] ~ General overview of how to manage data within these three modules of Schoolmaster.

Importing Test Scores (AIMS, Terra Nova) (Arizona Conference Only): [All] ~ Overview of how to import the setup files for AIMS test scores, and how to import those scores into the Schoolmaster program.

Open Lab: [ALL] ~ Opportunities to try out what you have learned, explore functionality not yet used at your site, or get answers to specific questions not addressed in the formal presentations.

Orientation on Basics of Student and Adult Data: [ALL] ~ Get perspective on the vast amount of data in these two major data files and their relationship to each other in the system. Also includes an overview of the user interface and online Help.

Reporting Workshops: [ALL] ~ Comprehensive workshops on how to use the powerful reporting capabilities in Schoolmaster.

• Reporting Workshop A ~ Hands-on Lab ~ Listings and Sequences ~ How to use Listing Layouts and Listing report specifications; how to properly define criteria for report output (i.e., report builder, labels, letters, listings, cross-tab reports, etc.) in Schoolmaster
• Reporting Workshop B ~ Hands-on Lab ~ Using Report Builder and Label Builder to create custom reports
• Overview of Schoolmaster Reports ~ Lecture ~ An overview of the built-in reports that can be used to retrieve a variety of data.
• Creating Crosstab Reports ~ Lecture ~ Crosstabs are a way to have Schoolmaster count data (e.g. the number of females and males in the 4th grade). This session will cover how to create these reports to show multi-dimensional counts if desired..
• Schoolmaster Letters ~ Attendance and General ~ Lecture ~ An overview of creating letters directly from Schoolmaster.

SAIS Workshop for Advanced Users (Arizona Conference Only): [ALL] ~ Intended for those who are comfortable in the SAIS submission process, this workshop provides users with the tools needed to troubleshoot and reconcile data between Schoolmaster and ADE.

SAIS Workshop ~ Basics (Arizona Conference Only): [ALL] ~ Intended for those who are new to the world of SAIS, this session covers what data is sent to the state, the submission process, and touches on the basics of the monthly reconciliation process.

Safe Schools Module: [ALL] ~ An overview of entering incident-based discipline data (rather than student-based entry via Guidance). Selected locations include state-specific requirements for this module (e.g., AZ, OR, etc.).

Schoolmaster PASS Implementation: [NE, DE, SE / E, S] ~ Intended for schools that have the capability to host a Web site, the PASS system offers parents the ability to access a Web site that contains a variety of information on the student (e.g., attendance, grades, etc.). This session discusses extracting selected data out of Schoolmaster for posting with the PASS system.

System Manager Functions and System Maintenance: [DE, SE / E, S] ~ Overview of key system manager functions (e.g., backups, system updates and setup files, and system maintenance).

Using Schoolmaster Web Classroom (Gradebook): [DE, SE / E, S] ~ This session covers how to navigate through the Web Classroom module to complete the same tasks one might do in Integrated Gradebook.
